What’s the right squash balls? One dot? Yellow dot?
Choosing the correct squash balls can be daunting, especially for new players! We at Rhodes Squash Club have simplified things to help you choose the right balls for your play.
Squash balls come in different sizes and colours and the reason is to help you choose the right ball to suit your needs, skills and level of play.
Squash balls are a truly unique component in the worldwide realm of sport. The professional-grade squash ball at a room temperature barely bounces, but once warmed, it bounces a lot. That’s a unique trait compared to other ball-sports.
Professional / 2-Dot
The professional 2-dot ball is the ultimate performance ball for professional, tournament and competitive PSA World Tour players. It requires sustained hard hitting shots to maintain the right temperature for optimal performance.
Competition / Intermediate / Yellow-Dot
The yellow-dot ball is the choice of most club players. It is designed for intermediate players or use on very cool courts. It has 5-10% longer hang time compare to the 2-Dot ball and provides them with more enjoyment.
Progress / Improver / Red-Dot
The red-dot ball is the perfect choice for improvers or recreational players with 10-20% longer hang time and 5% larger size. This is good for players developing their technique and working on their strokes as it does not require the player to hit as hard to retain the bounce.
Intro / Beginner / Blue-Dot
The blue-dot ball its 10% larger and has 20-40% greater hang-time compared to the professional 2-dot ball. It helps new players understand the dynamics of the ball and of the sport as a whole. It enables players to move easily while developing the correct technique and keeping the rallies alive.
Finally, choosing the correct type of ball according to your level of play, goals and skills is an important element to consider before stepping onto court.
